Assessment methods

Home   >>   Business School   >>   Undergraduate study   >>   Assessment methods

"We don't want to just teach you to pass the exams, we want to teach you about concepts which will be useful to you all of your life". This is the abiding philosophy of the Business School faculty. Assessment can be in the form of:

  • formal examinations
  • course work
  • essays
  • group presentations
  • projects
  • time constrained computing assessments

"I really appreciated the tutorials. Staff were very professional and gave endless attention to the students"
Alumnus

...depending on the objectives of the course. Weighting of assessed work normally ranges from 20% to 40% of the final course mark, although in some cases the weighting may be as much as 60%. The requirements for course work are set out in the materials provided to you at the beginning of the course. Your work will be marked by the course tutor and returned to you with feedback. Tutors will also help you to prepare for the examinations by providing revision classes.

Students are required to undertake formal examinations every six months (in June and December) and those students who perform exceptionally well could be eligible for an academic prize .

A number of courses have individual or group projects.
