On an ongoing basis, recruitment is sought for a small number of doctors wishing to apply for the University of Buckingham Clinical MD in General Internal Medicine.

Entry requirements

Applicants to the Clinical MD in General Internal Medicine should have:

  • An MBBS or equivalent degree
  • Successfully completed one year of internship at a hospital and must supply their Certificate of Completion.
  • An IELTS score of 7.0 or equivalent unless all previous training in medicine has been in English. This must be confirmed in one of the academic references.
  • Graduated from an internationally recognised medical school (external link).
  • Completed their undergraduate training and be fully registered with the Medical Council in their respective countries.

There is no necessity to pass the PLAB test but candidates may find it useful to do so.

How to apply

The selection process is strictly by merit and by application only. There are no written tests. The University and WLPMS reserve the right to interview candidates by telephone, videolink or in person before deciding whether or not to make an offer. The candidates may apply for the Clinical MD in General Internal Medicine directly via:

The following information must accompany your application (scanned electronic forms may be emailed to the Admissions Office and copied to Professor Mathur). The original documents will be needed for final verification once the candidates arrive in the UK to join the MD programme.

  • MBBS marks certificate
  • Certificate of completion of internship
  • Certificate of full registration with the medical council for your country
  • Two character reference letters from any member of your medical school academic staff, OR from your current senior medical colleagues and consultants

You should specify whether you wish to apply for the 2-year Clinical MD, 3-year Clinical MD or 1-year MSc + 2-year Clinical MD.

On receipt of your application our Admissions Tutor will consider all of your details. You may also be interviewed before a final decision is taken on your application. You will then receive notification of the decision which is normally within 10 - 15 days of receiving your application. Delays can be caused by incomplete information or unsatisfactory references being sent so please ensure that all the information you submit with your application form is complete and valid to avoid any unnecessary delays.

There is no formal closing date for applying for any entry point on any of the MD programmes, but we recommend that you apply as early as you can. See our FAQ page for more information about available start dates.

Fees are payable directly to the University of Buckingham. Candidates MUST NOT pay any agent or representative of the University or any person claiming to be such an agent or representative, any monies whatsoever, in any currency, as agents' costs are borne by the University directly.

Studying in the UK

After an offer of a place to study has been made, students will need to:

  • Achieve Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) clearance. This will be obtained on behalf of each student by WLPMS on arrival in the UK.
  • Successfully meet the occupational health requirements, as described in the University Policies and Regulations.

Visas

Following the receipt of tuition fees, the University will supply a visa supporting letter that should be submitted to the British High Commission to obtain a 2-year or 3-year student visa for the UK. Please note that any visa charges are separate and are the responsibility of the candidate. In the event of visa refusal, any money paid will be fully refunded upon receipt of an original visa refusal letter.
