ELECTION COVERAGE FROM BUCKINGHAM'S CUB REPORTERS
Journalism student Nikira John
Friday 7 May 2010
Journalism students from the University of Buckingham made a prominent contribution to the ground-breaking live election night broadcast by students from all over Europe.
As well as having created pre-recorded profiles of the candidates in Buckingham, one of our teams presented an exit poll link from Buckingham which was broadcast live at 22:30. A second group, broadcasting from the count at David Cameron's constituency of Witney suffered technical problems with wi-fi coverage but were able to supply the other members of Combined Universities Broadcasting (CUB) with breaking news packages and quotes.
The Combined Universities Broadcasting programme, broadcast from the University of Winchester, featured contributions from journalism students in Buckingham, Winchester, Kingston, Westminster, Dublin and Linz, upper Austria.
Roger Perkins, lecturer in journalism at Buckingham, said: "The professionalism of the teams was exemplary. The whole project gave the participants a glimpse into the glamorous world of media; one that involves waiting around car parks in the cold small hours, dodging security guards and spectacular bursts of creative activity resulting in an end product you're never satisfied with. In other words, it was absolutely fantastic."
