LAW STUDENTS VISIT GENEVA

Monday 26 July 2010

As part of the annual institutional visit, a group of LLM students from the Buckingham Law School went on a study tour to Geneva in June. Accompanying the group were Mr Jae Sundaram, the LLM Director who organised the trip, and Dr Francis Grimal who teaches International Law and the Law of War on the LLM programme.

The trip comprised visits to four institutions: the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), the World Trade Organisation (WTO), the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and the Palais des Nations (United Nations HQ). At each institution the group was given a guided tour which was followed by detailed presentation by experts from each institution, providing an opportunity for both students and staff to ask questions.

Institutional visits such as these are invaluable as they provide an opportunity for students to see how the law that they learn operates in practice. It was also a wonderful opportunity for students to interact and meet leading practitioners within the field.

The Director of the LLM Programme and Dr Grimal would like to thank all of the presenters at each of the institutions the group visited, for their time and expertise; Professor Susan Edwards, the Dean of the Law School, for the opportunity of making the trip possible; along with Mrs Margaret Darrell for her wonderful organisation.

Report by Mr Jae Sundaram and Dr Francis Grimal
