BUSINESS ENTERPRISE STUDENTS AT "GOING4IT" EVENT AT COOPER SCHOOL, BICESTER
The Mayor of Bicester (Cllr James Porter), "Britain's Got Talent" finalist Shaun Smith and Buckingham students
Tuesday 16 February 2010
Going4it is an event that has been organised annually for the last 9 years at the Cooper School and Bicester Community College to introduce youngsters to the working world, opening their eyes to all the opportunities available to them when they leave school, and motivating them to think about their future in a positive way. It is timed to ensure that the 13 and 14 year olds have a good range of information about future education and employment opportunities, to help them to select the most suitable GCSE subjects.
The event is sponsored by Bicester Chamber of Commerce, organised by Bicester Village, and involves a wide range of local companies and organisations. For the first time this year the University of Buckingham's unique BSc Business Enterprise (BBE) programme was invited to participate. Staff and students were asked to show the schoolchildren that there are opportunities for young people to start and run their own businesses, as well as work for someone else. Students on the innovative BSc Business Enterprise programme talked with the schoolchildren about their current experience in starting and running their own businesses, as an integral part of studying for an honours degree. The students also told the schoolchildren about life at the University of Buckingham.
The Business Enterprise students said afterwards:
It was great attending the Going4it event in Bicester last Friday as we got a chance to explain to potential students what it means for us to study here at the University of Buckingham. We emphasised the importance of a 2-year degree as well as our BBE programme that allows us to run a business and gain a degree within two years. Students that we spoke to were keen to find out more information about the University and all other courses that are available here. We also managed to meet other businesses who were exhibiting during the day as well the Mayor of Bicester.
